Congressman Anthony Weiner  has been in the news for tweeting inappropriate pictures to a young woman. People are split in their opinions about whether he should remain in office, but there are some lessons that can be learned for any business.

1) Be honest.

If Weiner had owned up to his action immediately, the fallout would have been much less. People are willing to forgive a mistake. They are willing to forgive stupidity. Lying, however, sets people on edge. If you make a mistake, own up to it immediately.

2) Watch what you post On the internet

Nothing stays confidential once it’s online. Whether it is e-mail, Twitter, or Facebook, electronic communication tends to be forwarded. If you want to disseminate private or confidential information, do it in person.

3) Learn from other’s mistakes

President Clinton lied about his affair with Monica Lewinsky. He got caught. Senator Larry Craig lied about his activities in an airport rest room. He got caught. Congressman Weiner failed to learn from the mistakes of others. Look at other companies. Study their mistakes and their successes. Learn from others.
