Balance The Big Picture And The Details

Forest for the trees

In the book, “The Businetiks Way” we define the entrepreneurial mindset as having five aspects (the artist, the architect, the builder, the supervisor, and the kid). The artist and the architect are the aspects that deal with the big picture ideas and the down to earth details respectively. Whether you have both of these aspects or work with a partner to cover both, it is important that they balance each other.

The big picture is your vision. It’s what gets you up in the morning and what you can’t wait to accomplish. The details are what makes the big picture possible. To accomplish your goals, you need to be able to balance the big picture and the details. Here are a few tips to help you achieve the balance.

  • Break down your vision: Think about your vision in parts. Look at each part as if it were the whole vision. Generate excitement from each part by thinking about how it moves you closer to your vision.
  • Look at what you need for each part: Look at what you will need to build each part of your vision. Whether it is knowledge, tools, skills, or materials, get a good feel for everything you will need to make your vision real.
  • See how the parts fit: All of the parts have to fit together for your vision to succeed. See how they fit together and make sure you have all of the parts accounted for.
