Entrepreneurs Do Not Give In To Fear

Just because you say you’re an entrepreneur, doesn’t make it so. Case in point: Jordyn Ross, a 26-year-old woman from California who appeared on the season premier of “Holey Moley.” (For those not familiar with the show, it’s a competition in “extreme mini-golf.” Contestants compete on a mini-golf course that includes zip lines, windmills that knock contestants into freezing water, and other obstacles.) She called herself Ross The Boss and proudly stated she was her own boss so she could play golf anytime she wanted. As she walked up to the first hole and promptly chickened out. Fear got yo her. Real entrepreneurs experience fear, but they don’t give in to it.

How To Handle Fear

  • Acknowledge it: Don’t deny being afraid. Feeling fear is not a weakness. It is part of human nature, the part that stands as a warning against danger. Accept that you feel fear.
  • Examine the fear: Think of it as an acronym: False Evidence Appearing Real. Is what you are afraid of, worth being afraid of. Most times what we are imagining is much more frightening than the reality. Examine what you are facing. Look at it as though it was someone else’s problem. Remove emotion and look at the situation.
  • Plan: If there is really a chance of the worse happening, plan for it. When you know what you will do under any circumstances, there is little to fear. Don’t give in and don’t give up. If you are prepared, you will be able to weather any storm.
