Handling A Crisis

crisis

Whether you own a business or work for someone, you have probably spent your share of time putting out fires. When a crisis hits, most people focus on ending the crisis. That’s only the first step. It’s not enough to put the fire out, you have to ensure it doesn’t reignite.

When a crisis hits, your first step is to end the crisis. The job doesn’t end there. Next, you need to determine what caused the fire. How did the situation get to the point that it became a crisis? What went wrong? Once you have determined that, steps must be taken to fix the problem and keep it from reoccurring.

  • Examine the existing process, if there is one.
  • See at what point things went wrong.
  • Fix the process
  • Follow the new process through and ensure the change doesn’t cause problems in new places

Processes can’t be assumed to work. They must be examined on a regular basis to keep them functioning properly.
