Know How To Exceed Limits

limitsAs a coach, I push my clients continuously to overcome their perceived limitations. However, pushing your limits isn’t simply a matter of endurance. People need to know how to push limits.

Think about a blizzard. Every time a blizzard hits people suffer heart attacks as they shovel. This happens because people try to pole vault over their limiations rather than pushing them gently. Limits have strength, and that strength has to be respected. While occasionally it is possible to shatter limits, more often it is a matter of pushing against them, little by little, until they crumble.

You don’t run a marathon the day after you start running. You build endurance, you train, you prepare. The same process should be used for all limits. Push your limits, but don’t expect to destroy them in one shot. Take the time, make the effort, and stay with it.
