The Faintest Ink Is Better Than The Best Memory

remember

This is not the blog post I intended to write. During a meeting, I had an idea for a blog post. I did not write the idea down. By the time the meeting was over, I could not remember what the idea was. This triggered the idea for this blog post: the importance of writing things down.

Your brain has no sense of time or priority. It thinks that everything it remembers is of equal importance and must be acted on now. This causes mental stress, which in turn causes you to forget. The best way to relieve that stress is to write things down. It doesn’t matter if you use a pad and pen, a to-do list program, or email yourself a note. The point is to get the idea out of your head and somewhere more concrete.

The headline for this blog post is an old Chinese proverb. The idea here has been known for centuries. It is important that people follow it.
