Using Sprint Goals

runnerIt has long been accepted that to succeed you need a big, audacious goal (sometimes referred to as a big, hairy, audacious goal). Those massive goals take time and effort to achieve. The reason most people don’t achieve these goals is that it is difficult to maintain motivation and focus for long periods of time. The way to achieve these major goals is to break them down into smaller goals. We call these sprint goals.

Sprint goals are small goals meant to be achieved in a short duration of time, sometimes a few weeks or as little as a day. Each sprint goal is integral to achieving the larger goal. Sprint goals enable you to break your objective down into manageable pieces which helps you maintain your focus and build momentum.

To create workable sprint goals:

  • Make the specific
  • Each sprint goal should build on the previous sprint goals
  • They should be short enough that you can build momentum
  • They should be long enough that you have the time to produce a high quality deliverable
