Look Back To The Golden Age Of Hollywood To See Where Business Is Going

Business is changing and we need to adapt to those changes. Adapting is easier when you know what’s coming. Fortunately, the current changes in the business environment have already happened in the entertainment industry. We can see where things are going by looking back at the golden age of Hollywood.

In the 1930s -1950s movies were a traditional business. Actors and directors were employees of the studios. They were given projects to work on and paid a salary. As time went on performers and crew became free agents. A movie was put together and pitched to a studio, or the studio would put the movie together and hire cast and crew on a project basis.

Corporations are now following the same pattern. Companies are now hiring fewer employees and more contractors on a project basis. As time goes on, contractors will be pitching their services more and more to companies. They complete the project and move on.

Following the Hollywood model, we can expect to see specialists banding together to form functional teams that move from project to project. Benefits will fall to the contractor and will no longer be provided by employers. Rates will be negotiated based on results.

Let’s see where it goes.
