Three Things You Can Do To Stop Feeling Overwhelmed

stress

With all the stress that people deal with on a day to day basis, whether it is from work or your personal life, it is easy to feel overwhelmed. When you feel overwhelmed, the way you react can actually make things worse. Here are three things you can do to get you through it and keep it from happening in the future.

  • Don’t procrastinate on actions that might help you. Stop waiting for an ideal moment, and do something to help yourself immediately. This can be putting a process in place to alleviate the pressure going forward, taking a day off to rest, or talking to a friend. Know the difference between urgent and important. You can put an urgent task on hold if it is not important, especially when it means you can avoid the problem in the future.
  • Use your unconscious mind. It’s unreasonable to expect to be focused all the time. Try taking a walk and letting your mind drift and see what solutions emerge. Try meditation to give your conscious mind a rest and let your unconscious mind take over. You’ll be amazed at what your unconscious mind can come up with.
  • Connect with your support system. Find ways to connect with people even when you’ve got limited time and emotional energy. People are social animals. We require contact with others to work at our best.
