If you have ever been on an airplane, you have heard the safety instructions. In the event of an emergency, you are supposed to put on your own oxygen mask before assisting others. The logic behind it is straightforward. If something happens to you, you won’t be able to assist the people around you if they need assistance. The same is true for your day-to-day activities. You need to practice self care.
If you don’t take care of yourself first, you won’t be in a position to assist your family, friends, coworkers, or employees. If you want to stay in excellent condition, it is essential that you engage in frequent acts of self-care on a consistent basis.
These are some measures to take for self care:
- Rest: You need to ensure that you are obtaining sufficient amounts of rest each night. You need to ensure that you are obtaining deep and restful sleep; it is not enough to just spend the night in bed. Don’t drink before bed. Make every effort to adhere to a set schedule. Check to see that your mattress is in excellent condition.
- Relax: Make sure you give yourself enough time to rest, and don’t feel guilty about it. Read a book, put on some music, or become involved in a pastime to help you relax. Spend some time each day doing whatever it is that brings you the most relief from your stress.
- Exercise: Several studies have shown the connection between maintaining a healthy body and maintaining a healthy mind. Invest a few minutes of your day into physical activity, even if you are not doing a complete exercise. Take a stroll, do a few sets of push-ups, lift some free weights, and so on. Even just a few minutes each day may make a significant difference in your health and stress levels.
- Eat well: You don’t need to become obsessive about your diet, but it is essential to ensure that your diet contains a variety of foods that are good for you. Maintaining optimal bodily function requires eating foods that are rich in the necessary nutrients and avoiding or restricting substances such as sugar and alcohol.
